Soul Food

Nutritional Label of the Bible

Jeremiah is one of the major prophets of the Old Testament. He says that he ate God-given words and that it made him feel good, how about that.

Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart
Jeremiah 15:16

Jeremiah had good company in the Old Testament. King David was even more exuberant. (God is often referred to as the Lord in the Old Testament.)

The law of the Lord is perfect reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psalm 19:7-11

Jeremiah and David were jubilant about the word of God, even without the New Testament being available.

It works. You can have words out of the Bible for breakfast every day. See it as a nutritional supplement. Jesus Christ was emphatic about us humans needing words of God as — indeed — nutritional supplement.

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4
