Introducing Proverbs

A Satisfying Life

How can we attain a satisfying life? That is the theme of the book of Proverbs, 31 chapters, approximately in the middle of the Bible. The main enabling factor is wisdom. Wisdom will assist you in finding a meaningful and satisfying life. Seek wisdom, first of all, not money or position. If you have wisdom, the other things will sort themselves out.

The book of Proverbs urges you like a good father urges his son:

Take my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold, for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
Proverbs 8:10-11

Proverbs is not a very religious book. It suggests that there are natural laws for human behaviour that apply to everyone, regardless of faith in God or lack thereof.

Oops, we are ahead of the curve… We will return to that subject later.

Naturally, a good father would also admonish his daughter.

En vis far undervisar sin dotter

A good mother likewise.

En vis mor undervisar sin dotter

Parents in all cultures and times have wished the very best for their children and grandchildren and have wanted to equip them for life. Proverbs advises us to keep listening and seeking the wisdom of those who went before us.
